Bovine dermis collagen is approximately 95% type I collagen and roughly 5% type III and type V collagen. These sponges are bovine dermis atelocollagen scaffolds that possess a honeycomb-like porous structure. This structure facilitates nutrient access to cultured cells and removal of waste products, promoting cell proliferation. Cells are easily harvested by collagenase treatment.
