EpCAM antibody

For detection of cargo protein in exosomes and Ovarian Cancer Research

Epithelial cell adhesion molecule (EpCAM) is a glycoprotein that functions in a homophilic manner as a cell-cell adhesion molecule specific for transitional epithelium and monolayer epithelium, a type of pseudostratified epithelium. Since most solid tumors arise from epithelial cells, it is highly expressed in various types of carcinomas and has been identified as an exosomal cargo protein1) .

MicroRNA profiling using EpCAM-positive circulating tumor exosomes (or EpCAM-positive exosomes derived from circulating tumor cells) has been suggested as a potential diagnostic marker at the time of biopsy for the diagnosis of cancer patients without subjective symptoms2). Furthermore, recent discoveries regarding the presence of microRNAs, EpCAM and CD24 in ovarian tumor-derived exosomes are very promising for the early detection of ovarian cancer2) 3) 4).
