Epidermolysis bullosa acquisita (EBA) is an autoimmune blistering skin disease characterized by the presence of IgG anti-type VII collagen autoantibodies.
Type VII collagen is the main component of fibrils that serve as adhesive structures in the skin basement membrane between the epidermis and dermis. Type VII collagen consists of three identical α chains, each of which has a central collagen domain (COL), a 145 kDa non-collagen domain (NC1) adjacent to its N-terminus, and a 34 kDa non-collagen domain (NC2) adjacent to its C-terminus. The major antigen epitope of anti-type VII collagen autoantibodies in EBA patients is located within the NC1 domain. However, recent research results have reported that the NC2 domain is also a minor epitope. To develop an ELISA assay reagent that can detect anti-type VII collagen autoantibodies with high sensitivity, two types of purified recombinant antigens (NC1 and NC2) were mixed and bound to the same well of an ELISA microplate.
The Anti-Type VII collagen ELISA Kit can detect anti-type VII collagen autoantibodies, including anti-NC1 antibodies as well as anti-NC2 antibodies.
